IMPORTANT EVENTS - Mark your calendar! International Welcome (Back) Breakfast - FREE FOOD! Wednesday, September 26, 9:30-11:00 a.m. in front of Student Services II in the outdoor plaza. Welcome back to Irvine! Come meet and welcome the new international exchange students and join other UCI students who have recently returned from abroad for a FREE BREAKFAST! Come early for best selection. Bring friends, make friends, eat and be merry! Find out about international activities at UCI. Hope to see you there! Lessons from Abroad: Study Abroad Returnee Conference November 3, 2012, 9:00-5:00 p.m.  Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, CA Go from abroad to job! Learn how to market your abroad experience to future employers AND expand your network of people in the international arena. Meet other returned study abroad students, share your experiences, and learn about ways to internationalize your career goals. UCEAP 50th Anniversary Celebration: Movie Screening:  Midnight in Paris – FREE! November 15, 2012 6:30pm UCI Student Center During International Education Week watch the 2011 Academy Award winning film, Midnight in Paris, and relive the adventure of cultural discovery - written & directed by Woody Allen and starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams.  Enjoy a reception and refreshments with UCI students, faculty, staff and alumni as we celebrate UCEAP's big milestone.  Watch for details in October.  Advance registration required.  Mark your calendar NOW!

Connect with International Students

English Conversation Program
Mondays beginning October 1, 2012, 4:00-5:00pm, CORE office, UCI Student Center, 3rd floor.
The ECP is an English practice forum which encourages English language development through casual discussion in a friendly environment.  Meet international students and scholars from around the world and gain exposure to multiple perspectives on current events, both local and global.  Volunteer or earn academic credit (1.3 units) as a discussion facilitator.  For more information, contact Alegria Busso mbusso@uci.edu 

iClub
International Club (or iClub) is a UCI student club designed to bring together international and domestic undergraduate and graduate students through fun and constructive social events. Past events have included bonfires, hikes, Thanksgiving dinners, pub nights, and game days. The club has members from all over the world, and includes both UCI undergraduates and graduate students. To get involved, join the Facebook group (linked above).

Communication Club (conversation partners) - Join for the fall!
Be a conversation partner for a UCI Extension international student, September through early December. Every Thursday night at the Anteater Pub & Grille in the UCI Student Center.  Meet international students, study abroad returnees, residents from the International Village, members of UCI’s iClub and more!  Everyone is welcome!  International Students over 21, be sure to bring your UCI ID and passport to be served.

Global Leadership Certificate Program
Information Session: Wednesday, September 26, 1:00-2:00pm, Student Services II, Room 1010AB
Globalize yourself! Discover UCI's Global Leadership Certificate Program, a two-year certificate program designed to prepare you to be a global leader regardless of major and/or interests. Program consists of six requirements that give you the opportunity to meet international students, get involved on campus, attend leadership workshops, study abroad, AND bring out the leader in you! A great resume builder! For more information, visit the GLCP website and attend an information session. 

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
Did an international topic spark your interest while abroad?  Plan a faculty-mentored research project on your international area of interest.  Opportunities are available to apply for research funding, for publication in the UCI Undergraduate Research Journal, and to present your research at the annual UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium.  Click above to learn how UROP can help.

Global Connect – Teach global issues to middle school & high school students
Share your global spirit and new global knowledge with others as a global studies intern, teaching the meaning of globalization through economic, political, social and cultural lenses in local middle and high school.  Global Connect interns earn 2 units P/NP.   Application required.  See details on the web or contact Ellen Schlosser edschlos@uci.edu

International and Global Studies Club
Come join discussions with peers and faculty on topics of international and global interest.  The IGSC is an academic club designed to integrate students from all backgrounds who share a common interest in the global arena. Topics can include public health assistance, governance and public policy, anthropology, culture, etc. The club brings together diverse students interested in international affairs.  For more information, click on the Facebook link above.

Intern in Washington D.C. (UCDC) or Sacramento (UCCS)
You've been abroad - now gain hands-on experience interning in a globally-focused internship in your own backyard. Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many, many more!
