Contests and Grants = Money!!

Student Diplomat Video Competition: Deadline: November 6, 2009
  Share how your study abroad experience has helped to advance global understanding.  The winner will be named the 2009 Student Diplomat and awarded a $300 cash prize.   Meet past winners.  

Glimpse Correspondents Program:  Deadline: November 8, 2009
  Will you be abroad again, for at least 10 weeks between January and July 2010?  If so, then consider the Glimpse Correspondents Program.  Correspondents will tell unique stories through writing and photos.  Correspondents receive a $600 stipend, a professional editor, career training in writing and photography, guaranteed publication on Glimpse.org, and potential publication in National Geographic platforms.  

Global Health Travel Fellowships:  Deadline: January 15, 2010
  The Global Health Travel Fellowship for undergraduate students assists students in conducting short-term disease-related research in international field sites.  Six to ten fellowships are available.  A maximum of $5,000 in direct costs may be awarded.  The project should be completed during summer 2010, or one quarter in the academic year of 2010-2011.

International Peer Mentor Program
  As a Peer Mentor, you will serve as an invaluable source of information for new international students who have questions and concerns. Our common thread is the experience of studying abroad and our common goal is to welcome new students from all around the world.  We will be accepting new mentor applications in November for Winter Quarter!  Please stay informed regarding recent updates and upcoming deadlines via our Facebook group: UCI CIE Peer Mentor Program  

English Corner
  The English Corner is a conversational program that is a great way to meet new people and improve conversational skills. Please bring your friends and come to meet lots of new people!  Meetings are EVERY Monday from 5:30-6:30pm at the IC.  For more information contact the volunteer coordinator, Alex Han ahan1231@gmail.com  

Communication Club
  Be a native English speaking conversation partner in the Communication Club.  The Communication Club is a language and cultural exchange program partnering domestic and international students.  Learn a new language and culture or practice a language you are studying now while sharing your experiences with an international student.  For more information contact Rowena Santos (949) 824-8530 or rssantos@uci.edu  

International Club
  The International Club is a social club designed to bring together international students and domestic students through fun and constructive events.  Weekly meetings are Wednesday from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Humanities Hall 220.  Everyone is welcome.  For more information contact International Club president, Asal Bidokhti, abidokht@uci.edu  

Share your Experience with Others
  • Create a Power Point of your study abroad experience to share with UCI students. This is a great way for you to reflect on your study abroad experience and capture it in a presentable form while it is still fresh in your mind.   Email Christine Chou at: cchou5@uci.edu for more details regarding parameters for the Power Point and how it will be used.
