On-Campus Housing for Undergraduate Students under 25 years of age

OPTION 1: For housing purposes, you are considered a "New Transfer Student". Options for Transfer Student housing are: Campus Village apartments, Arroyo Vista theme houses, and International Village. These are the designated options for "New Transfer Students" who are under 25 years of age. Descriptions of these options are available on the links above. Many questions can be answered on the Student Housing's General Information for International & EAP/Reciprocity Students page.

On-campus housing contracts last through the academic year (i.e. until the end of spring quarter) and cannot be broken. This means that:

  • Students planning to attend UCI for winter quarter only cannot apply for on-campus housing.
  • Students planning to attend winter and spring quarter may apply for on-campus housing.
  • Students planning to attend winter, spring and fall quarter, can apply for on-campus housing for the first two quarters but will need to find housing off-campus or consider Option 2 for fall quarter.

We highly recommend that you indicate an interest in all three housing communities mentioned above to maximize your chances of being offered a space. If you are applying to the International Village and/or one of the Arroyo Vista theme houses, make sure to write a separate Statement of Interest. It has been our experience in the past that under certain circumstances, Student Housing has offered contracts for an on-campus community other than Campus Village, the International Village, or Arroyo Vista. However, these three communities are the only options to which you may apply. Note also that applying to the Campus Village Apartments is required; indicating an interest in the International Village and/or the Arroyo Vista theme houses is optional.

IMPORTANT!!!

  • On-campus housing is full for the 2008-2009 academic year. Since you are arriving to UCI in the middle of the academic year, on-campus housing is offered on a space available basis only - it is not guaranteed.  It is CRITICAL that you apply for on-campus housing as SOON as possible after you have been accepted to UCI, so that your name can be added to the winter wait list. You should also be prepared to look for off-campus housing. Note that you will not be able to apply for on-campus housing until you have been officially accepted to UCI.
  • You should complete the housing application on-line via MyAdmissionsApplication@UCI. In order to login, you will need to know your Application ID number (located in your UC Central Processor application acknowledgement letter) and your Student ID number (located in your acceptance letter). If you cannot locate your Student ID#, you can obtain it through this web site. If you cannot locate your Application ID# and cannot call the phone number on the web site, contact CIE and we will obtain it for you. Your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) was submitted automatically when you were admitted to UCI and you do not have to submit it yourself. If the system requires you to submit your SIR when completing your on-line housing application, please contact CIE and we can assist you with this.
  • You MUST submit the $20 Housing application processing fee which can be paid online with a credit card. Alternatively, you may also make this payment by printing a payment coupon and mailing it with an international money order in US Dollars payable to "UC Regents."
  • Successful applicants will be mailed a housing contract so it is CRITICAL that CIE, UCI Admissions, and the Housing Office have your current mailing and e-mail address at all times. You will be notified via e-mail when your contract is being mailed to you. Check your e-mail every day, even if you are traveling or on school break - traveling is NOT a valid excuse for missing any deadlines. You MUST return the contract, with the Reservation Fee (ranging from $350-359 US), by the deadline stamped on the contract. There is a QUICK turn-around time to return the contract (typically 2-3 weeks, including international mailing time). If you miss your contract deadline (or don't include the Reservation Fee), your contract will no longer be valid, and your space will be given to another student. You MUST observe ALL deadlines set forth by the Housing Office. You will also have to arrange a move-in date with the Assignments Coordinator, which is usually a day or two before classes begin on January 5, 2009. The Housing Office will be closed during the winter break from December 24 to January 1, which will affect your move-in date.

**FAILURE TO DO ANY ONE OF THESE THINGS WILL RESULT IN YOU NOT OBTAINING ON-CAMPUS HOUSING**

OPTION 2: Vista del Campo and Vista del Campo Norte are privately owned and managed apartment communities on the UC Irvine campus, offering furnished apartments to single students. They allow residents to sub-lease their room, and each quarter, they have some vacancies. The application process for this community is different from that which is described above. Housing is NOT guaranteed in this community. CIE provides EAP Reciprocity students with a biweekly list of students interested in subleasing.
