FEES and HEALTH INSURANCE
EAP non-degree reciprocity students are not required to pay UCI registration fees. However, you ARE assessed the UCI mandatory health insurance fee. Please be prepared to pay your health insurance fee upon your arrival to the Central Cashier’s Office, located in Aldrich Hall.
** All students attending UCI are required to have health insurance ** The type of health insurance plan provided by UCI is different for undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate students will be insured through the Student Health Center (SHC) via the Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Plan (USHIP). Graduate Students will be insured through the UCI Gottschalk Medical Plaza via the Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP). Coverage details can be found on the USHIP and GSHIP web sites.
Insurance coverage costs are not yet determined for the 2008-2009 academic year. To give you an idea, during the 2007-2008 academic year, the cost for USHIP was $264.00 per quarter and the cost for
GSHIP was $835.00 per quarter .
You are responsible for either 1) paying for health insurance or 2) obtaining a health insurance waiver.
1) If you wish to use the UCI insurance (recommended), you will need to be prepared to pay your health insurance fee to the Central Cashier's Office for your first quarter upon arrival to UCI. This payment may be in the form of cash, an International Money Order, or a U.S. Money Order payable to "UC Regents". Please be advised that credit cards and Euro-cheques are not an acceptable means of payment.
When giving the insurance payment to the Central Cashier's Office for your first quarter at UCI, be sure to indicate that you want the fee to apply to your on-line ZOT account.
NOTE : CIE has temporarily waived your health insurance fee to allow time for you to make the payment upon your arrival. Therefore, your financial account will indicate that you do not owe any fees to UCI. Please note that this is only a temporary fee waiver and if you do not obtain a UCI health insurance waiver (see below), you are responsible for paying the health insurance fee no later than FRIDAY, October 3, 2008.
IMPORTANT: You are responsible for making this payment each quarter.
2) If you have your own health insurance and wish to apply for an exemption from the UCI health insurance, your insurance MUST meet ALL of the criteria specified on the waiver application. If it does, complete the waiver, include the necessary documentation, and submit it by the deadline. The waiver deadline is not yet determined . Waiver applications can be found on the USHIP and GSHIP web sites. Follow-up with the appropriate person listed on the waiver application to determine if your waiver is approved. If your insurance is not approved for an exemption, you will need to be prepared to pay the health insurance fee. See #1 above for details.
You should be receiving information from the Student Health Center (SHC) describing the UCI entrance examinations required of all incoming students. Read that material carefully and follow any instructions that are given. You will need to provide your immunization records to UCI either before you leave or upon arrival, so be sure to obtain this information, in English, from your doctor. Students who are either insured by the undergraduate insurance, or waive out of the insurance, may go to SHC for medical treatment while at UCI. Information about their services can also be found on their web site. Graduate students who are insured by the graduate insurance may go to the UCI Gottschalk Medical Plaza for medical treatment at UCI.
