UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS: Your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) was returned automatically when you were admitted to UCI. You do NOT need to return it yourself, as it has already been received.
GRADUATE STUDENTS: You MUST return your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), which is included in your acceptance letter mailing, before you will be allowed to enroll in classes.

HOW TO ENROLL IN COURSES:
BEFORE you will be allowed to enroll in classes, you need to submit your Statement of Legal Residence (SLR). In order to complete your SLR, you will need to know your Application ID number (located in your UC Central Processor application acknowledgement letter) and your Student ID number (located in your acceptance letter). If you are an undergraduate student and cannot locate your Student ID#, you can obtain it via MyAdmissionsApplication@UCI. If you cannot locate your Application ID# and cannot call the phone number on the MyAdmissions web site, or if you are a graduate student who cannot locate this information, contact CIE and we will obtain it for you.
Be SURE to complete your SLR before the Enrollment Deadline of September 15, 2008. Failure to complete the SLR by this date will result in a hold being placed on your record, you will be unable to enroll in classes, and you will be liable for a $50 late enrollment fee.
The fall quarter Schedule of Classes (SOC) will be available beginning on May 3. At this time, you will only be enrolling in courses for fall quarter. To view available classes for fall, select a department name (ex: ANTHRO for Anthropology) and click on the "submit" button. You may also access the UCI General Catalog on-line for course descriptions, but please keep in mind that NOT ALL COURSES IN THE CATALOG ARE OFFERED EACH QUARTER, AND SOME MAY NOT BE OFFERED AT ALL. Further instructions on how courses in the catalog are organized can be found on-line as well.
Should you need guidance on particular courses in which to enroll, you may contact the Academic Counselor in your school who is designated as a CIE contact. These counselors work primarily with students going abroad, so you will need to clearly indicate that you are an EAP Reciprocity student coming to UCI. They will not be able to advise you on the equivalency of UCI courses to your home university, but they can provide assistance regarding details of courses offered here. A listing of Undergraduate Academic Counseling Offices web sites for all majors can also be found on-line. You may receive information about summer academic advising sessions -- you are NOT required to attend these. Some departments automatically require all students to meet with an Academic Counselor in their first term at UCI. However, this is not required of you, due to your exchange student status. If you were notified that you are required to meet with an Academic Counselor, contact your department and explain that you do not have to do this because of your EAP Reciprocity student status. Failure to explain this may result in a hold being placed on your record, whereby you will not be allowed to enroll in classes in subsequent quarters. If you wish to meet with an Academic Counselor, you may do so after you arrive to UCI.
For registration purposes you are considered a "New Admit." You may register for classes at UCI on-line via WebReg (see below). We STRONGLY recommend that you enroll in classes before arriving to UCI - you MUST enroll in at least one course before the enrollment deadline. The FIRST date that you may be able to enroll is May 19, 2008.
Each individual's "Enrollment Window" (the date you can begin enrolling) opens on a different date and time. Beginning May 12, you may find out when your Enrollment Window opens via WebReg. BEFORE using WebReg, you will need to activate your UCInetID and password. Note that you will not be able to activate your UCInetID until April 28 . You will need to know your Student ID number to activate your UCInetID. Write down your UCInetID and password, required for WebReg.
Once your Enrollment Window opens, you have 48 hours of full access to enroll before you are restricted to non-prime time access (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. PST). Enroll in classes yourself using WebReg. The system is available from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. PST daily, with occasional down times for special updates. Please read all instructions carefully before attempting to enroll. Definitions of terms used in enrolling can be found on the web. The SOC also contains instructions on how to enroll in lecture and discussion sections.
You are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 units (normally 3 courses) each quarter. This is an EAP and Visa requirement. Most students enroll in 12-16 units each quarter (3-4 courses). The first day of instruction for fall quarter is Thursday, September 25, 2008.
HOW TO ENROLL IN COURSES WITH PREREQUISITES:
Be sure to first read How To Enroll In Courses.
You may not be allowed to enroll in certain classes due to a restriction, such as a prerequisite course requirement. However, you may be able to gain admission to the class with the department and/or professor's approval. To determine if a course has a restriction, look in the SOC under the "Rst" column and see if there is a Restriction Code. The key to what the Restriction Codes mean is listed at the bottom of each page. You may also look in the UCI General Catalog to find out the title and description of the prerequisite course for each course you wish to take. If you can demonstrate that you have an appropriate background in that subject to take the class (e.g. you have taken similar classes at your home university) you should be able to add the class without having taken the specific prerequisite at UCI. If you wish to add a class with a prerequisite, you should:
1) Contact an Academic Counselor in the School that is offering the course. Some Academic Counselors can either waive prerequisites on your behalf, or determine if you meet the prerequisite and allow you access to the course. If this doesn't work, you should
2) Contact the professor of the course before you arrive. Use the search function on the UCI web site to obtain faculty contact information and see if s/he will allow you to add the course. S/he may want to know about your background in the subject, so be prepared to e-mail/fax a transcript and/or course descriptions of previous courses you've taken. However, some professors are on vacation over the summer and/or are unavailable, in which case you should
3) Wait until you arrive and talk to the professor in person. Bring relevant course descriptions and evidence of classes you have taken at your home university, as described above, so that the professor may evaluate your background in the subject. You may then add the class, using an add card with the professor's signature, once you arrive to UCI.
Note that some classes are restricted to "majors only". Usually, this is due to a lack of space in the course, and if you are not admitted into the major at UCI, you most likely will not be allowed to take that class. Also note that a few classes (ex: some Film Studies classes) may have additional fees associated with the class, as noted in the "Rst" column in the SOC. These fees are NOT included in your EAP exchange and you are responsible for paying these fees yourself upon arrival to UCI (you do not need to pay before the enrollment deadline). The Cashier's Office does not accept credit cards.
HOW TO ENROLL IN COURSES THAT ARE FULL:
Be sure to first read How To Enroll In Courses.
If you cannot enroll in the courses you need before the Enrollment Deadline of September 15, you may still be able to add your courses in the following two ways:
1) During the “Adjustment Period” beginning on September 18. This is also done through WebReg.
2) Upon arrival to UCI. Further instructions will be given at the EAP Reciprocity Student Welcome Meeting.
Keep in mind that enrollment in your desired courses is not guaranteed and your chance of being able to register for the classes you want is much greater if you enroll before arrival. If you have problems enrolling in courses, be sure to contact the EAP Reciprocity Counselor, Mario Diaz at: mjdiaz@uci.edu
