Important Information

International Opportunities Program - Study

The International Opportunities Program (IOP) is the link between UCI students and ANY international experience abroad offered outside of the University of California.

    IOP Study Programs

    Purpose:  Take courses for your major/minor/breadth/personal interest in almost any country in the world.
    Credit:  Receive transfer credit and fulfill UCI degree requirements.
    Finances:  Financial aid is available including scholarships, loans, and grants (excluding work-study and UCI grants).

This page contains links to Highlighted IOP Providers and IOP Search Engines that specialize in searching for the hundreds of other study abroad programs that are available to UCI students. All program details - such as requirements, program length, and costs (and what those costs include)- vary by program. UCI students planning to participate in one of these programs - or any other program abroad - are IOP participants and need to pick up the IOP Forms and Information from the the Study Abroad Center front desk!

The below IOP program providers have been highlighted because they offer several exciting program options that are not available through the University of California, and past UCI participants have been satisfied with the experiences offered by these providers.  Selected program highlights are listed at the links below.


In addition to UCI's Highlighted IOP Providers, there are hundreds of other IOP study abroad providers, universities, etc. who offer programs in which you can participate! This page links to external search engines and web sites that specialize in searching for study abroad programs. The most helpful resources are noted with gold stars. The list below are only a few resources to help begin your search.

    A powerful searchable web database on 5,000 learning opportunities worldwide, compiled by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
    An excellent resource containing listings of study abroad programs. Includes sections on intensive language programs, work/internship programs, and a study abroad chat. room.
    An extensive web site listing study abroad programs. Search by country or by subject. Includes sections on intensive language programs, work/internship programs, and travel resources.
  • Transitions Abroad
    A bimonthly magazine for those interested in working, studying, and living abroad. This page of their web site includes essential articles, resources, and programs for those interested in international study
  • EduFind
    Contains databases and web sites with information on thousands of courses worldwide.
