This list is meant to highlight only a few resources and programs and is by no means a complete list.
AIESEC is an international association of students working to build a better world through a variety of international work exchanges run between over 87 countries. Over 4,000 positions are offered in the areas of management, development, technical, and education.
AIPT promotes international understanding through cross-cultural, on-the-job, practical training exchanges for students and professionals in over 50 countries around the world. Most full-time internships last for 8-12 weeks during the summer, but longer stays are available. AIPT programs include: the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) to assist students majoring in technical subjects, the Student Exchanges program (mostly hospitality/tourism) to assist students in non-technical majors, and the Career Development program for professionals and recent graduates in nearly any career field.
Paid short-term and long-term training positions are available in Finland. Fields change from time to time, but often include teaching English as well as paid internships in areas related to international law and human rights; biology, biotechnology, ecology, and environmental science. Arcadia has academic internship programs available in five countries including Australia, England, Ireland, and Scotland, ranging in duration from a summer to a semester. The internship programs also include credit-bearing courses that will help you in the workplace to which you are assigned. Students will spend anywhere from 1 to 4 days per week in the workplace and take courses along with their internship.
BU offers semester and summer study/internship programs in Australia, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and Washington D.C. that combine course work with pre-professional experience. Placements are made according to the student's abilities and interests. Short term and summer programs are available, and some students may qualify for financial aid. CEX's Project La Pedrera offers students and non-students a variety of internship and volunteer work opportunities with an underserved, indigenous community in Guatamala. A variety Spanish-speaking ability and lengths of stay are available. Opportunities include teaching English, math, computer classes, organizing projects and workshops, taking children on field trips, investigation surveys, statistical legal work, medical and dental clinic positions, building projects, domestic crisis interventions.
CDS offers training opportunities in Germany, Spain, Argentina and Russia ranging from 3-24 months in business/finance, marketing/PR, information technology, engineering, and other related fields. Every program consists of an internship component; some have academic or language training elements or require prior relevant work experience as well. CDS arranges placements and acquires appropriate work permits in addition to other logistical support. Depending upon program, knowledge of foreign language required and financial aid is available.
CIP matches client's interests with nonacademic but structured opportunities worldwide (from art to zoology, Australia to Zimbabwe), many of which provide room and board. The Center has placed some 5,000 people and offers a database that includes over 5,200 programs. Programs are designed as “Interim” programs, that is to say year long programs taken during the year after graduation, but before graduate school or work.
The CWIS internship program provides individuals interested in Fourth World Studies, an opportunity to work with a diverse group of world leaders, scholars and activists who live in the four corners of the world. Areas of application may include international relations, policy formulation and economic development, health, spirituality and traditional medicine, environmental issues including resource management and biodiversity. Interns are asked to commit to a minimum of at least six months of participation in their position.
Council offers summer, semester, academic year and full year study programs with internships and research opportunities in Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the UK. Programs include studies in culture, history, business, politics and other subjects, along with the languages of the host countries.
Connect-123 facilitates career-related internship and service learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in Cape Town, South Africa and Buenos Aires, Argentina in a wide range of fields including public health, medicine, education, economic development, business consulting, human rights, and journalism.
Dublin Internships provides full-time, professional level internships across the spectrum of majors, minors and career options in modern, progressive Dublin, Ireland.
EPA offers semester-long and summer study internship programs for academic credit in the UK (London), Belgium, Germany, and Spain. In each location, students may work in national or regional government (for example, House of Commons, European Parliament). Other internship placements include business and banking; museums; theater; architecture and urban planning; health administration, hospitals and medical research; media; social welfare; environmental organizations.
FW Program offers semester and academic year internships in China, Costa Rica, India, Australia, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, and the UK . Positions are available in areas such as historical architecture, archaeology, art, economics, and music. There is a high degree of independence and flexibility with these programs.
The Department of Overseas Studies at the University of Haifa in Israel offers internship experiences in a variety of fields, among them education, social work, immigrant absorption, the physical sciences, women's studies, Jewish-Arab relations, and international finance. They are open to qualified students who have successfully completed at least two full years of academic study. The Hansard Society for Parliamentary Government, in conjunction with the London School of Economics and the University of London , offers the opportunity for students to become involved in the workings of the British government and politics, accompanied by a comprehensive study of British politics and public policy. Students are mainly assigned internships with Members of Parliament, but also to political parties and think tanks. Internships are unpaid, though relevant travel and lunch expenses may be provided, lasting 12-16 weeks over the summer.
IAESTE offers paid internships in over 30 countries in technical fields such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, natural/physical sciences, architecture, and agricultural science. Most placements last for 8-12 weeks over the summer, though fall and long-term programs are also available. Application deadline is December 1st.
IES offers a wide variety of internships in the areas of art, business, education, government, law, politics, science, social organization and theater. Internship placements are available in over 20 destinations.
INSTEP offers semester and academic year programs for juniors and seniors interested in politics, law, economics, political economy, contemporary Europe , the social sciences and the humanities in either London or Cambridge . Courses are in lecture or seminar format. Internships are available in business, economics, environment, law, politics, and social work on a limited basis to qualified students to be done in conjunction with the study program. A 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.2 Major GPA required to apply.

IVP, sponsored by La Societe Francaise de Bienfaisance Mutuelle, provides students the opportunity to intern in France or the UK. Six weeks are spent working with tourism offices, summer camps, hospitals, environmental projects and local city governments and two weeks are reserved for travel. At least two years of French language study is required for positions in France. Housing and meals provided during the work period.
Intrax Internships Abroad is a professional career development and leadership program focused on providing students with practical work experience and global skills training in major economic centers overseas: London, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Tokyo, and Costa Rica. Looking ahead to a challenging job market, international work experience can give participants an edge. Students who are accepted into the program pay as they would for study abroad and receive a personalized internship match, training, housing, excursions, and have an on-site coordinator.
The University of Minnesota's MSID program offers unpaid internship placements in Ecuador, India, Kenya, and Senegal. Placements are available in areas such as agriculture, education, environmental projects, public health, small business and women's projects. Students spend fall semester in-country completing field study and coursework, and have the option to continue with a full-time internship through January term or the full academic year. Two years of college-level Spanish required for Ecuador, and two years of college-level French required for Senegal.
ODN's Partnership in Development provides students a chance to gain experience,
improve communication skills , and facilitate action in the field of international
development. ODN helps link qualified students with grassroots development organizations
in the US and abroad for internships.
UR sponsors semester-long programs in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and the UK that are administered by Educational Programs Abroad (EPA). The London internships are also available in summer. The internships carry eight credit hours and students also take two courses carrying four credits each. Internships are open to students majoring in a wide variety of fields. You do not need specialized background to apply for most internships.
SU offers a variety of internships and field placements at their study centers in France, Italy, Spain, the UK and Zimbabwe as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Switzerland . Internships are available in areas such as communications, drama, business, law, international relations, management, political science and social services. The DOS hires both unpaid and paid interns for a variety of programs in the US and abroad. Some positions available at US Foreign Service postings abroad. Requires US citizenship and at least junior standing.
