Study Abroad for Social Sciences

What past Social Sciences students say about EAP

"If [students] have any interest in international learning at all or just want to try something new and challenging, Go! I can honestly say that the benefits outweigh the cost, especially during this era of increasing internationalization, where few things in our lives are not affected by other actors in the international arena in some way. For many of us, this may be the only opportunity we will get to study/work abroad."

-Economics & International Studies major in Japan

"There is so much more to life than the normal routines we all get caught up in. When you purposely put yourself in an uncomfortable position, a whole world opens up and opportunities appear left and right. This experience is truly [magical], exciting, and fun filled! The best part of the trip was meeting and learning from people all over the world. I was able to interact with British professors, meet international students, and live with different customs."

-Sociology student in Sussex, United Kingdom

Academic Advising and Approval for EAP:

1. Review How to Get Credit.

2. For study abroad program recommendations click on your major on this page.

3.  Optional:  The School of Social Sciences provides EAP advising on a walk-in basis for prospective EAP applicants Monday through Friday from 8:00-9:30 a.m.  This service is provided on a first come, first served basis so please allow yourself enough time to meet with the Academic Advisor.  Bring course descriptions for any courses you are considering taking.

4.  Required:  After being selected for EAP participation, and once you know the courses that will be offered during the term(s) that you will be abroad, you must schedule an appointment with a Social Sciences Academic Advisor.  Bring descriptions of the courses you plan to take while abroad. The advisor will help you determine which courses are likely to meet degree requirements.

4. While on EAP, if course availability requires that you change your schedule, feel free to email rrmunoz@uci.edu to ask if other courses are likely to count toward degree requirements.  Please attach course descriptions to your email message.

5. For students going on EAP in their senior year, it is not possible to be certified for graduation until at least one quarter after your return due to the time it takes for EAP grades to be posted to your UCI transcript. Please keep this in mind when applying for graduation.

Academic Advising and Approval for IOP:
