Study Abroad for Information & Computer Sciences

Academic Advising and Approval for EAP:

1. Review How to Get Credit.

2. For study abroad program recommendations see “Suggested EAP destinations for ICS” on this page.

3. Required:   After being selected for EAP participation and once you know the courses that will be offered during the term(s) that you will be abroad, make an appointment to meet with an ICS Academic Counselor.  Bring to the appointment course syllabi for the courses you plan to take while abroad, to determine if the courses will be applicable to your degree requirements.

Optional:  You may meet with an ICS Academic Counselor for EAP advising sooner, if needed.  Bring to the meeting course descriptions for any courses you are considering taking abroad.

Academic Advising and Approval for IOP:

1. Review How to Get Credit.

2. Complete the IOP Credit Contract (available at CIE).

Tips from your Bren ICS Academic Counselors:

Do consider taking the following abroad:

  • Courses to fulfill GE requirements
  • Courses to fulfill lower-division math and science requirements
  • Courses to fulfill upper-division core major requirements

Do not plan to take courses to fulfill a project requirement.

Best times to study abroad:

  • Summer
  • During your second year
  • During your third year

You may not participate in EAP after completing your degree requirements.

Why Study Computer Science Abroad?

“I encourage Bren ICS students to complement their education with a study-abroad experience. These experiences can provide a unique perspective on the role that information technology plays in a global economy.  For many of our graduates, the opportunity to spend time abroad comes later in their careers -- if it comes at all. Taking advantage of this chance while they are in school can be invaluable.”
