Study Abroad for Humanities

What past Humanities students say about studying abroad

"Rather than thinking of a year spent in Spain as one definable experience, I visualize it as hundreds of smaller events linked in their uniqueness that ultimately resulted in a general feeling about where I had been and accomplished. "

- English major in Madrid, Spain

"First of all, in going abroad you are coming out of your 'comfort zone...' entering a different country and a different world... Through this you will face so [many] challenges and opportunities that can only be experienced by going abroad"

- Chinese major in Beijing, China

Academic Advising and Approval for EAP:

1. Review How to Get Credit.

2. For study abroad program recommendations click on your major on this page.

3. Required: Humanities majors must meet with a Humanities Academic Advisor prior to applying for EAP.  Make an appointment with a Humanities Academic Advisor once you have an idea of the EAP program you plan to apply to. Call 949-824-5132 to make an appointment. At this meeting you will receive your EAP Preliminary Approval Form.  Submit one copy of this form with your EAP application.

4. After being selected for EAP participation, and once you know the courses that will be offered during the term(s) that you will be abroad, make another appointment to meet with a Humanities Academic Advisor.  Bring to the appointment descriptions of the courses you plan to take while abroad. The advisor will help you determine which courses are likely to meet degree requirements.

5. While on EAP, if course availability requires that you change your schedule, feel free to email humeap@uci.edu to ask which other courses are likely to count toward degree requirements.

6. Upon return from EAP, contact a Humanities Academic Advisor about the process to petition the EAP courses for credit toward requirements. Be sure to save course syllabi as they may be required.

Academic Advising and Approval for IOP:

1. Review How to Get Credit.

2. Complete the IOP Credit Contract (available at CIE).
